Le Marronnier offers a place to stop off on the GR 36 (from the English Channel to the Pyrenees). It is also an ideal stopover gîte, situated 4 km from the greenway that passes through Pré-en-Paille and Javron-les-Chapelles before joining the Vélo Francette in Mayenne (towpath). You are in the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park, 5 km north of Saint-Pierre-des-Nids. The gîte is situated in the former school building, adjoining the town hall.
On the ground floor, there is a large 44m² room that can accommodate up to 35 people, opening onto a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, freezer, gas hob, oven, dishwasher, coffee maker and small appliances), one separate toilet and a toilet with a shower accessible to people with reduced mobility. Upstairs, there is a dormitory comprising an area with eight beds and two rooms, each with two beds. There is one separate toilet and a shower room with twin washbasins.
Cars can be parked along the street to keep the courtyard clear for access. In the courtyard, there is a toilet and washbasin area, as well as a charcoal barbecue.
Shops: in Saint-Pierre-des-Nids, you’ll find all the shops you need. If you’re a hiker, you can have all your meals (including breakfast) delivered by the restaurant La Source in La Ferrière-Bochard (02 33 26 65 28), provided you order in advance of your arrival.
You’re right next to Mont des Avaloirs, the Saint Cénéri le Gerei leisure centre (with a kayaking centre and a treetop adventure course) and the Saint Léonard des Bois leisure centre, each 10–12 km away.
Very soon (2023), a new GRP trail will open, enabling a long loop around Mont des Avaloirs. Watch this space.
Overnight stays are available on weekdays: €15 per person per night.
The venue can be hired by the day: €180 per day (€140 in July–August).
The gîte can only be hired by one group or family at a time. Booking is therefore essential. Sharing of the property is not permitted.
